마음에 들지 모르지만 너무나 당연한 이야기 입니다. 우리는 모든 차별에 맞서 싸우고 더 많은 여성이 정치에 참여할 수 있도록 싸워야 합니다. 라틴계, 흑인, 아메리카 원주민 등이 다양한 사람들이 정치에 참여하는 것은 마찬가지로 매우 중요한 일입니다.

이것이 실현되기를 저 역시 바라고 있습니다.

하지만 “저는 라틴계 여성이예요. 저를 찍어 주세요”라는 말은 충분하지 않습니다. 그 라틴계 여성이 이 나라 노동자 계급을 대변하고 월스트리트와 같은 금권 세력에 맞설 것인지 저는 알고 싶습니다.

우리가 지금 해결해야할 문제가 있습니다. 민주당이 해결해야 할 문제는 이런 것에만 머물러서는 안됩니다. 좋아 우리는 흑인 의원이 이만큼 있고, 라틴계도 있고, 여성 의원들도 있어 우리는 정말 다양성을 가진 정당이고 다양성을 가진 나라야라고 이야기하는 것만으로 충분하지 않습니다.

다양성은 당연히 필요하며 이걸 부정해서는 안됩니다. 우리는 여성들이 정치권에 진출하는데 많은 성과를 이뤘습니다. 하지만 저는 20명인 여성의원은 50명으로 늘어야 하고 더 많은 흑인 상원이 필요하다고 생각합니다 이러한 것들은 민주당 분열의 원인이 되고 있습니다.

하지만 제가 강조하고 싶은 이야기는 ‘저는 여성입니다. 저를 찍어주세요.’ 이것만으로는 안됩니다.

우리에게 정말 필요한 여성은 월스트리트, 보험업계, 제약업계, 화석 에너지 업계에 맞설 배짱을 가진 여성입니다.

앞으로 민주당이 직면할 문제는 자신들이 가진 ‘정체성 정치’를 넘어설 수 있느냐 입니다. 흑인이 대기업 회장이나 CEO가 된다는것은 미국이 한걸음 앞으로 나아간다는 의미입니다. 하지만 노동자를 착취하는 CEO라면 그 사람이 흑인이건 라틴계건 전혀 의미 없는 겁니다.

동의하지 않는 사람도 있겠지만, 이것이 바로 민주당에서 우리가 하려는 싸움입니다. 지금 이 나라 노동자 계급은 무너지고 있으며 이것이 도널드 트럼프가 승리한 원인입니다. 이 시점에서 우리는 노동자들을 대변할 후보가 필요합니다.

중위가계소득이 무너지고 젊은이들에게 미래는 보이지 않고 노동자들의 기대 수명이 짧아지는 현실을 이해하는 후보가 필요합니다. 건강보험료와 처방약 값을 낼 돈이 없으며 자녀들을 대학에 보낼 여력이 없습니다.

흑인, 백인, 라틴계, 동성애자, 남성 모든 후보들이 우리에게는 필요합니다. 하지만 우리에 필요한 후보와 공직자들은 과두제에 맞설 배쩡이 있어야 합니다. 이것이 지금 필요한 싸움입니다.

레베카, 당신을 지지하는 것은 기쁜 일이지만 라틴계 여성이라 것만으로는 충분하지 않습니다. 미국이 직면한 주요 문제에 대한 당신의 입장은 무엇이며 금권세력이 맞설 배짱을 가졌는지 알려주시기 바랍니다.

Rebecca says I want to be the second latina senator in US history any tips?

Let me respond in a way that the question I may not be happy with it goes without saying that as we fight to end all forms of discrimination as we fight to bring more and more women into the political process Latinos African, Americans Native Americans all of that is enormously important and count me in as somebody wants to see that happen

but it is not good enough for somebody say “hey I’m a Latina vote for me” that it’s not good enough I have to know whether that latina is gonna stand up with the working class of this country is going to take on big money interests

now one of the problems one of the struggles that we’re gonna have right now let me lay it on the table than the Democratic Party is it’s not good enough to me to say okay well we got X number of african-americans over here we got Y number of Latinos we have Z number of women we really diverse party a diverse nation not good enough

we need that diversity that goes without saying that is accepted right now we’ve made some progress in getting women into pallas

I think we got 20 women in the Senate now we need 50 women in the Senate we need more african-americans but but here is my point and this is where there’s gonna be a division within the Democratic Party

it is not good enough for somebody who say I’m a woman vote for me no that’s not good enough

what we need is a woman who has the guts to stand up to Wall Street to the insurance companies to the drug companies to the fossil fuel industry in other words one of the struggles that you’re going to be seeing in the Democratic Party is whether we go beyond identity politics you know

yeah I think it’s a step forward in America if you have an african-american had a CEO with some major corporation but you know what if that guy is going to be shipping jobs out of this country and exploiting his workers doesn’t mean a whole hell of a lot when he’s black or white or Latino all right and I know you know some people may not agree with me but that is the fight that we’re gonna have right now within the Democratic Party the working class of this country is being decimated

that’s why Donald Trump won and what we need now are candidates who stand with those working people who understand that real median family income has gone down that young people in many parts of this country of a very limited future that life expectancy for many workers is going down people can’t afford health care can’t afford their medicine can’t afford to send their kids to college

we need candidates black and white and Latino and gay and male we need all of that but we need all of those candidates and public officials to have the guts to stand up to the oligarchy that is the fight of today

so I say to that what’s the name Deborah Rebecca Rebecca I would be delighted to support you but it is not good enough that you’re a woman now good enough that you’re a Latino

you’re gonna have to tell me how you stand on the major issues facing this country and whether you have the guts to take on big money
